An EBX implementation plan should connect a defined master/reference-data problem to measurable outcomes, governance, data/model design, workflow, integration, migration, service operations, and adoption. A fixed sequence of generic iterations is not evidence that the schedule or product is suitable.

Frame the decision

Identify domains, business processes, affected users, authoritative sources, data owners/stewards, consumers, obligations, pain baseline, target range, costs, risks, and alternatives. Confirm product edition, licensing, support, Java/application-server/database compatibility, custom-module strategy, and exit constraints.

Use evidence-gated iterations

  1. Discovery: map source/consumer systems, definitions, identifiers, quality, permissions, workflows, volumes, service objectives, and migration constraints.
  2. Thin vertical slice: configure one bounded domain from ingest through validation, stewardship, approval, publication, audit, and recovery.
  3. Design validation: test model evolution, matching/merge rules, hierarchy/reference behavior, workflow exceptions, accessibility, security, and integration contracts.
  4. Migration rehearsal: profile, map, transform, load, reconcile, resolve rejects, measure duration, and test rollback/restore on production-like scale.
  5. Limited release: train real roles, operate support, measure task outcomes, defects, overrides, backlog, latency, access failures, and user impact.
  6. Scale and retire: add domains only after exit criteria pass; decommission old paths after retention, reconciliation, recovery, and owner approval.

Plan cutover and recovery

Define freeze and delta handling, transformation versions, dual-run policy, control totals, approvers, communications, stop criteria, and rollback feasibility. Some schema/workflow/data changes are not simply reversible. Preserve protected source snapshots and test restoration before destructive retirement.
