November 12, 2015 — Orchestra Networks appears in Gartner's Product Data MDM evaluation as a Challenger, one day after appearing in the Customer Data MDM quadrant.
One day after its customer-data report, Gartner published the Magic Quadrant for Master Data Management of Product Data Solutions. Orchestra Networks appeared again, this time as a Challenger.
The two placements should not be blended into a claim that EBX5 was a Leader in both 2015 quadrants. The more defensible and useful observation is that the same product appeared in both domain-specific evaluations. At a time when customer and product MDM were treated as distinct markets, EBX5 was already building a multidomain record.
EBX5 in the product-data market
Gartner reported that EBX5 version 5.6 had reached general availability in January 2015. It estimated $8 million in 2014 product-data MDM software revenue and 85 product-data customers as of March 2015.
The report highlighted EBX5 experience in reference data and hierarchy management, flexible XML-based modeling, message-oriented integration, and emerging information stewardship and governance. Surveyed references described real-time integrations supplemented by batch processing when appropriate. They also regarded the pricing model as understandable.
Momentum before the unified market
Gartner estimated that Orchestra Networks' product-data MDM revenue grew by more than 21 percent during 2014, following an estimated 32 percent increase the prior year. The company was expanding its staff and beginning to gain revenue through partners.
Those signals matter because the platform was not being framed solely as a product information management tool. Orchestra Networks targeted multidomain projects and used one modeling foundation for product, customer, reference, hierarchy, and other shared data.
Where the platform still had work to do
The report cited limited Gartner inquiry share, a need for broader marketing, early-stage starter templates, and later-than-competitor plans for Hadoop support. Gartner also received too few customer survey responses to treat that year's product feedback as authoritative.
That balance makes the 2015 record more credible. EBX5 demonstrated breadth and momentum, but Orchestra Networks still had to improve market reach, packaged content, and ecosystem scale.
The combined 2015 signal
Across the two November reports, Orchestra Networks was:
- a Visionary in customer-data MDM;
- a Challenger in product-data MDM;
- represented by the same EBX5 platform in both markets;
- already associated with multidomain customers and use cases.
This dual presence makes a broader point: EBX5 is participating across both domain-specific markets as one model-driven platform.
