January 13, 2020 — Gartner positions TIBCO Software as a Leader and evaluates TIBCO EBX as the product continuing the Orchestra Networks MDM lineage.

The January 2020 Magic Quadrant made the product lineage explicit. Gartner positioned TIBCO Software as a Leader and evaluated TIBCO EBX version 5.9, the product formerly developed by Orchestra Networks. TIBCO described the result as the fourth consecutive Leader recognition, counting the three earlier Orchestra Networks placements.

This was the first full Gartner MDM Solutions analysis of EBX after TIBCO acquired Orchestra Networks.

Gartner connects Orchestra Networks to TIBCO EBX

The report noted that TIBCO had announced the acquisition on December 4, 2018 and rebranded the product as TIBCO EBX. Gartner factored the acquisition into its analysis and called EBX TIBCO's flagship MDM offering.

That language provides the clearest evidence for treating the pre- and post-acquisition results as one product history. The vendor name changed, but EBX remained the solution being evaluated.

Scale after the acquisition

Gartner estimated TIBCO's MDM software revenue at $75 million. Its most prevalent licensed domains included finished product, B2B organization, and B2C customer or citizen data. Gartner estimated that 185 customers were managing multiple domains.

The report associated TIBCO with strong client satisfaction, services and support, broad geographic and industry coverage, and high scores across product critical capabilities. It also described the acquisition as bringing EBX greater geographic reach, sales capacity, global support coverage, and a wider partner ecosystem.

Integration created new responsibilities

Gartner's cautions focused on the work required to convert that scale into consistent customer outcomes. The report cited limited availability of third-party EBX resources, onboarding and training concerns, coding requirements in complex projects, and a need for clearer roadmap communication during the acquisition transition.

These points are part of the lineage. A larger owner expanded EBX's reach, but customers still needed skilled implementation resources and confidence in the combined roadmap.

Four consecutive reports, not four calendar years

The January 2020 placement followed:

1. January 2017, Orchestra Networks; 2. October 2017, Orchestra Networks; 3. December 2018, Orchestra Networks; 4. January 2020, TIBCO Software with EBX.

The sequence explains why “fourth consecutive recognition” is accurate while “four consecutive years” is not.

Previous: December 2018: the acquisition-year recognition Next: January 2021: TIBCO EBX receives a fifth consecutive Leader recognition
