January 19, 2017 — Gartner publishes its first unified MDM Solutions Magic Quadrant, with Orchestra Networks entering the Leaders quadrant alongside Informatica.

January 19, 2017 marks the pivotal point in the EBX analyst-recognition lineage. Gartner published its first Magic Quadrant for Master Data Management Solutions, replacing the separate customer-data and product-data evaluations. Orchestra Networks entered the new Leaders quadrant alongside Informatica.

This is Orchestra Networks' first Leader recognition under Gartner's new unified MDM Solutions criteria.

A more demanding market definition

Gartner said the new report was neither a customer/product consolidation nor an evaluation concerned only with multidomain MDM. It assessed how vendors supported different industries, domains, use cases, organizational structures, and implementation styles.

That distinction is important. Orchestra Networks did not become a Leader merely because EBX5 could store more than one type of record. Gartner evaluated a broader solution model that included workflow, integration, modeling, information quality, hierarchies, stewardship, governance, operational and analytical uses, and multiple implementation styles.

The EBX5 evidence

Gartner evaluated EBX5 version 5.7.0, which had reached general availability in February 2016. It estimated Orchestra Networks' 2015 MDM software revenue at $20.4 million and counted 142 customers managing multiple domains.

The report highlighted three connected strengths:

  • revenue growth above Gartner's estimated market average;
  • one integrated EBX5 product that performed strongly across a broad set of industries and data domains in the reference survey;
  • high multidomain-support and total-cost-of-ownership results in that survey.

The company also presented references covering finished product, customer or citizen, financial, and other master-data domains. That breadth aligned directly with the new evaluation.

Leadership did not remove execution challenges

Gartner cautioned that Orchestra Networks still needed broader geographic resources, especially in Asia-Pacific, and a more mature partner network. It also identified comparatively weaker survey results for high availability, batch integration and synchronization, and data-quality monitoring.

These cautions help explain what the Leader placement meant. EBX5's platform design and multidomain record were strong enough for the Leaders quadrant, while global scale and parts of the delivery ecosystem remained works in progress.

The historical signal

The defensible claim is specific:

This claim connects naturally to the two 2015 articles. EBX5 moved from appearing across two domain-specific evaluations to leadership in the market that replaced them.
