The history of EBX in Gartner's master data management research spans a change in market definition, six consecutive Leader recognitions, and the acquisition of Orchestra Networks by TIBCO. The names changed along the way, but the evaluated product lineage remained connected:

Understanding that sequence prevents two common errors. The first is treating the 2015 placements as Leader recognitions when they were not. The second is counting six consecutive Gartner reports as six consecutive calendar years.
Before one unified MDM market
In November 2015, Gartner maintained separate Magic Quadrants for customer-data and product-data MDM. Orchestra Networks and EBX5 appeared in both:

The classifications differed, but the dual appearance established an important foundation. EBX5 was one platform crossing the two dominant master-data categories. Gartner's accompanying analysis also described multidomain customers, flexible modeling, workflow, hierarchies, reference data, stewardship, and governance.

2016 was a transition, not a missing Leader report
No distinct Gartner MDM Magic Quadrant published during calendar year 2016 has been substantiated for this archive. Instead, Gartner moved from two domain-specific evaluations toward one broader MDM Solutions market.
Some vendor communications later called the inaugural unified report a 2016 Magic Quadrant, but the Gartner document itself is dated January 19, 2017. The series therefore treats 2016 as a bridge chapter and does not manufacture a placement or graphic.

Six consecutive Leader recognitions
Gartner's first unified Magic Quadrant for Master Data Management Solutions raised the scope beyond customer and product hubs. It considered multiple domains, industries, use cases, implementation styles, and organizational requirements.
Orchestra Networks entered the Leaders quadrant in the inaugural report and remained there in the next two editions. Following TIBCO's acquisition, Gartner continued evaluating EBX under the TIBCO name.
TIBCO later made that continuity explicit. In its January 2022 announcement of the sixth recognition, the company noted that it had been referred to as Orchestra Networks in the January 2017, October 2017, and December 2018 reports. This is the clearest surviving first-party bridge between the two names and supports treating the six placements as one connected EBX product lineage.

What remained consistent
Across the reports, Gartner repeatedly discussed capabilities that form the technical thread of EBX:
- a model-driven platform capable of representing different domains;
- hierarchy and reference-data management;
- workflow, stewardship, and governance;
- support for relationships across mastered entities;
- deployment across industries and multidomain use cases.
The cautions evolved as the company grew. Earlier reports focused on market visibility, partner scale, geographic coverage, templates, and parts of data quality. Later reports focused more on implementation resources, training, documentation, roadmap communication, leadership continuity, and acquisition integration.
That evolution is more informative than a badge gallery. It shows a specialized platform gaining recognition, scaling its market presence, and then entering a larger software portfolio.
At the end of the sequence, TIBCO described EBX as an all-in-one platform for managing, sharing, and governing master data, supported by automation, guided MDM, security, and governance capabilities. It also framed MDM as a foundation for scaling toward a broader data-fabric architecture. Those claims capture the vendor's 2021–2022 positioning and should be read as contemporary TIBCO messaging rather than as Gartner endorsement.
